B.A., Birmingham Southern College, 1962Ed Hardin received his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he served as leading articles editor for the Alabama Law Review. He received his undergraduate degree from Birmingham Southern College.
Ed Hardin is listed as one of The Best Lawyers in America in the areas of commercial litigation and insurance law and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association.
Ed Hardin is recognized as a Diplomate and Life Fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates and has served as a member of its National Board. Currently he serves as President of the Alabama Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Mr. Hardin has served as President of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association and as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Trial Lawyers Association.
Many civic activities decorate Ed Hardin’s years in the legal and health care communities. Most notable is his active participation on The Woodrow Wilson Council, a private-sector advisory group to the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C.
Ed Hardin also serves on the Board of Trustees for his alma mater, Birmingham Southern College.
In addition, Mr. Hardin is a founding member of the Board of Directors for both the American Sports Medicine Institute and Children of Slain Police Officers, a foundation which provides college scholarships for children of Birmingham police officers killed in the line of duty.
Ed Hardin is also on the Board of Directors for 2010 for Oasis Counseling for Women & Children, which continues to fill a critical gap in mental health services in the Greater Birmingham community by offering women and children affordable counseling services on a sliding fee scale.
Experience
Ed Hardin brings over four decades of litigation management and trial experience to Burr & Forman.Mr. Hardin served as Executive Vice-President and General Counsel of Caremark Rx, Inc. (NYSE CMX) from 1998 until the company merged with CVS in March, 2006. He also served as a member of the Caremark Board of Directors. Ed Hardin continued to serve as a consultant to CVS Caremark Corporation (NYSE CVS), one of the largest pharmaceutical services companies in the United States after joining Burr & Forman.
Before joining Caremark, Ed Hardin served as Senior Principal in the Birmingham law firm of Hardin & Hawkins. During his legal career, Mr. Hardin has served as lead trial counsel in over 200 civil jury trials in federal and state courts. For over 20 years, Ed Hardin served as Special Assistant Attorney General and represented the Alabama Department of Public Safety in multiple litigated matters and investigations.
